A-Leagues assistant reunites with Tony Popovic as part of Socceroos’ new-look coaching staff

The Subway Socceroos have unveiled a new-look coaching staff following Tony Popovic’s appointment, including the arrival of Hayden Foxe from the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Western United’s Foxe and Australian icon Paul Okon are Popovic’s new assistants after the former Melbourne Victory boss replaced long-serving Graham Arnold last week.

Former Australia international Foxe reunites with Popovic, having been the latter’s right-hand man at Western Sydney Wanderers and Perth Glory, while former Central Coast Mariners head coach Okon has also been added to the staff having last worked as an assistant at Belgian giants Club Brugge.

Frank Juric has been appointed goalkeeper coach, having previously worked at Perth Glory, Adelaide United, Western United and Brisbane Roar while Michael Mantikos (team analyst) and Julie Meek (sports dietician) have also arrived.

It comes after assistant coaches Rene Meulensteen and Luke Wilkshire, and goalkeeper coach John Crawley departed following Arnold’s resignation.

“I am excited to welcome these talented individuals to our team of coaching and support staff. Each of them brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will be instrumental in our journey ahead,” said Popovic.

“Together, we will work tirelessly to develop a dynamic and competitive Subway Socceroos’ squad that embodies the spirit of Australian football.

“Our goal is to not only achieve success on the pitch but to also foster an environment where every player can thrive and reach their full potential.”

Popovic is preparing for next month’s crucial 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup qualifiers against China and Japan.

The Socceroos are winless through their opening two matches in Round 3 of World Cup qualifying, collecting just one point.

Australia set to host China on October 10 before travelling to Japan to face high-flying Samurai Blue on October 15.
