20 Isuzu UTE A-League products called up by Socceroos for USA & Canada friendlies: Details

A-Leagues alumni dominate the CommBank Socceroos squad for upcoming international friendlies against 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup hosts the United States and Canada.

Tony Popovic announced a 24-player squad to meet Canada in Montreal on October 11 and the USA in Colorado on October 15, with 20 of those having come through the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Former Central Coast Mariners star and Socceroos captain Mat Ryan has been recalled, as have ex-Melbourne Victory duo Jason Geria and Daniel Arzani for the first time since June, along with another A-Leagues product in Mitch Duke.

Ex-Victory forward Nick D’Agostino and former Wellington Phoenix midfielder Cammy Devlin are back in the mix for the first time since Popovic was appointed in 2024, while former Perth Glory youngster Jacob Italiano has been drafted in following an injury to Hajduk Split’s Fran Karacic.

Meanwhile, Cardiff City’s Alex Robertson has been called up for the first time since October 2023 with the likes of reigning Johnny Warren Medallist Nicolas Milanovic and 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League Golden Boot winner Adrian Segecic dropping out.

There are 20 players in the Socceroos squad who have come through the A-Leagues, either via an academy or the first team:

“The September window was a good step forward for us. We want to keep building continuity and momentum towards the World Cup, a process that began last October,” Popovic said amid a 10-game unbeaten streak as Australia gear up for next year’s World Cup.

“It’s a privilege to face two World Cup hosts in Canada and the USA, both quality opposition.

“This will give us a taste of what to expect at next year’s tournament – one of the advantages of qualifying directly.

“Our focus remains on preparing diligently for the World Cup. Every window and each match provides an opportunity to challenge ourselves as we strive to make an impact on the world stage.”
