Having already qualified for next year’s showpiece event in Canada, USA and Mexico, the upcoming friendlies provide Tony Popovic’s side with a priceless opportunity as Australia gear up for another World Cup campaign.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity,” Popovic said. “I’m grateful that we’ve got these types of games, playing two [FIFA World Cup 26â„¢] host nations, playing in these conditions.

“Obviously, we have to play in altitude as well in the States, which is a different challenge, which we may be faced with at the World Cup. They’re quality opposition, a lot of international experience, players that are playing regularly at a very high level. So it’s a fantastic test, fantastic challenge, but also a great opportunity for us to play these teams and show what we can do.”

When are the games?

Montreal is the venue for Australia’s opening game in North America, where the Socceroos will meet Canada at Stade Saputo on Saturday, October 11. The game kicks off at 10:30am AEDT.

After the Canadian leg, the Socceroos will go up against the UA at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado on Wednesday, October 15. Kick-off is slated for 12pm AEDT.

Players to watch

Canada and the USA boast plenty of talent in their respective squads.

While Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies remains sidelined for Canada, Jesse Marsch is still able to call upon Juventus forward Jonathan David, Ismael Kone of Sassuolo and Villarreal’s Tajon Buchanan.

World number 26 Canada are also in the midst of a nine-game unbeaten streak following a quarter-final run at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, while they trumped Romania and Wales during the previous international window.

As for Mauricio Pochettino’s USA, they are headlined by in-form AC Milan star Christian Pulisic and he is supported by the likes of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Malik Tillman, Leeds United’s Brenden Aaronson, Weston McKennie of Juventus, Marseille forward Timothy Weah, Fulham defender Antonee Robinson and Celtic centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The 16th-ranked USA upstaged Japan 2-0 in September following defeats to South Korea and Mexico.

As for the Socceroos, there are no Isuzu UTE A-League-based players in the squad with the competition set to begin on October 17.

However, 20 of the 24-player squad have come through the Isuzu UTE A-League, either via an academy or the first team.

Martin Boyle, Cameron Burgess, Milos Degenek and Alex Robertson also on the roster, having not come through the domestic competition.
