Signing news: Uskok arrives to bolster United’s defensive stocks

Western United have announced the signing of central defender Tomislav Uskok on an 18-month deal.

The Western Melbourne native arrives from NPL NSW club Sydney United to provide Mark Rudan’s side with much-needed defensive cover after the departure of Turkish centre back Ersan Gülüm and injuries to Brendan Hamill and Aaron Calver.

Uskok has prior experience in the Hyundai A-League having made six appearances for Central Coast Mariners throughout the 2015/16 Hyundai A-League campaign.

Upon his arrival at the club Uskok had a message for United fans on what they can expect from him on the field.

‘(I’m) just a disciplined, aggressive centre half that enjoys to play football,” Uskok told the club website.

“I’m looking forward to getting started.

“I’ve worked with a lot of the coaching staff previously, they’ve been really good to me in the past and I’m looking forward to working with them again.

“I’d love to stamp my authority and find my spot in the team, and from there as a team go and play finals football and from there go further and win some silverware.”

United boss Rudan says signing a local product is a great story for the growing club.

“We’re delighted to give another NPL talent a chance to show what he can do at the highest level,” Rudan said.

“Tomi is a local west Melbourne product, which makes for a great story and it’s important for our club.

“Having worked with Tomi before he has all the attributes to contribute to our club and we’re looking forward to seeing Tomi make the most of this opportunity with us.”
