Signing news: Roar re-sign two key attackers

One is a veteran Caltex Socceroo, the other is an exciting young gun on the rise in the Hyundai A-League.

But in a huge boost for Brisbane Roar, Brett Holman and Nicholas D’Agostino have both re-signed with the club for the next Hyundai A-League Season.

Holman, who has played 63 times for the Caltex Socceroos, will feature in a third Hyundai A-League campaign for John Aloisi’s side having joined the club for the start of the 2016/17 Season.

The 34-year-old has amassed 38 appearances in that time, scoring 10 goals, while he has been one of Roar’s most important creative players in attack.

“I’m really happy to continue my playing career in Brisbane and I can’t wait to wear Orange again in 2018/19,” Holman said.

“It’s onwards and upwards from here and I’m excited about what the future holds.

“The group is hungry for success and I’m looking forward to helping the team challenge for another title.”

At the other end of the spectrum is D’Agostino, who has shown glimpses on his undoubted talent in his nine first-team appearances in his career.

After making his debut in the 2015/16 campaign, injury hampered the 20-year-old’s season but he’s delighted to commit his future to the club.

“The culture here is second to none and I can’t wait for next season to begin,” D’Agostino said.

“My aim is to continue to work hard on improving my game as I want to score goals and help the side win matches.

“I believe we have a bright future. With the superb coaching and medical departments we have, and the excellent recruitment we’ve made, I’m sure we will thrive at our new home base in Logan.”

Nicholas D’Agostino

Part of that recruitment D’Agostino talks about is the addition of Caltex Socceroos striker Adam Taggart from Perth Glory.

It promises to be somewhat of a new-look attack for the Roar in 2018/19, with Massimo Maccarone and Fahid Ben Khalfallah already departing the club.

“We’re pleased that two more talented players have committed their futures to our club. We are confident that Brett and Nick will have important roles to play in our success moving forward,” coach John Aloisi said.

“Both players will give us depth and further options in the front third with the qualities they possess.

“I am pleased with how the squad is taking shape as we look to have a successful 2018/19 campaign and we build for the future.”
