Brisbane Roar Women have bolstered their defensive stocks with experienced international defender Angela Beard, who has signed with the club until the end of the Ninja A-League 2025/26 season.
A composed and versatile defender, Beard brings a wealth of experience at both domestic and international level, having enjoyed a career across the A-League Women, overseas competitions and on the international stage.
Beard has previously represented Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers, and has also spent time playing abroad in Sweden with Linköping and AIK.

Internationally, Beard has represented both Australia and the Philippines, earning caps for the CommBank Matildas earlier in her career before going on to become a key figure for the Philippines women’s national team that made history by qualifying for, and competing at, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Known for her strong one-on-one defending, positional awareness and leadership Beard is a welcome addition the Roar backline after the departure of central defender, Leia Varley.
Head coach Alex Smith said, “Very excited to welcome Angie to the squad, she is a very talented and aggressive player. She adds a wealth of experience and winning mentality to an already resilient group.”
Beard will be available for selection immediately as the team heads south to face league leaders Melbourne City on Sunday in a bid to extend their unbeaten run to eight games.
