Poll results: fans select which imports Victory should use in the ACL

We’re getting closer to the start of Melbourne Victory’s 2018 AFC Champions League campaign, with the club set to finalise their squads in coming days ahead of their opening group match against Ulsan Hyundai.

Victory boss Kevin Muscat has four imports at his disposal but only three can make the cut in terms of visa spots allowed for the ACL.

We asked fans to vote for which trio Muscat should select from star striker Besart Berisha, Kiwi winger Kosta Barbarouses, Argentine midfielder Matias Sanchez and Dutch playmaker Leroy George.

And the results are in! Check out who made – and missed – the cut below, according to the fans.

Barbarouses, Berisha and George – 78.6%

In a landslide vote, Victory’s attacking triumvirate were the fans favourites when it comes to being involved in the 2018 AFC Champions League campaign.

That leaves Argentine midfielder Sanchez as the odd man out. And it seems a fairly wise call, especially considering Victory’s strength in the middle of the park.

Skipper Carl Valeri, Caltex Socceroo Mark Milligan and new recruit Terry Antonis can all play in the middle of the park behind Victory’s first-choice no.10 James Troisi.

Matias Sanchez

The rest of the results:

  • Sanchez, George and Barbarouses (leaving out Berisha) was next best with 11% of the vote.
  • Berisha, Sanchez and George (leaving out Barbarouses) came in third with 7.1%.
  • While Berisha, Sanchez and Barbarouses (leaving out George) had just 3.3% of the fan vote.
