Mariners academy gun’s special night in the west: 20yo’s wondergoal deepens Glory woes

Central Coast Mariners academy graduate Bailey Brandtman scored the first goal of his Isuzu UTE A-League career in style to net his side all three points in a 1-0 win over Perth Glory on Friday night.

In just his ninth Isuzu UTE A-League start for the club – and 22nd league appearance overall — 20-year-old Brandtman rattled a long-range left-footed strike past Glory keeper Matthew Sutton to open the scoring just before the hour mark in Perth.

That’s how the score remained until full-time as the Mariners took their win tally to two from four games (one draw, one loss) to begin the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 season.

For Glory, meanwhile, Friday’s 1-0 loss was a third defeat on the bounce after an opening-round draw with Wellington Phoenix, with the only two goals of their season to date coming in the Round 1 stalemate.
