The independent Match Review Panel consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Con Diomis and Adam D’Apuzzo – convened on Monday, 14 October 2019 to consider an incident involving Ryan Strain of Adelaide United in or around the 57th minute of Adelaide United’s Hyundai A-League 2019/20 – Round 1 Match against Sydney FC on Friday, 11 October 2019.
In accordance with the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations, the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Strain was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.
The MRP determined that Strain had committed the offence of “Denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as prescribed in Law 12 of the Laws of the Game.” The MRP confirmed that Strain will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence.
