Newcastle Jets v Adelaide United: match preview

Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United are fighting to open their Hyundai A-League accounts in Saturday’s early kick off.

After a Round 1 bye, Newcastle secured a point in the F3 derby with Central Coast Mariners last Saturday thanks to Dimitri Petratos’ second half penalty.

Adelaide, on the other hand, were left to rue another poor first half as a brace from Melbourne City striker Jamie Maclaren delivered Gertjan Verbeek a 2-1 defeat.

But the Reds will head to the Hunter in a buoyant mood after a crushing 4-0 win over City in Wednesday night’s FFA Cup decider.
