Hard work pays off for Newcastle Jets academy graduates signed to fresh scholarship deals

Newcastle Jets teenagers Chloe Walandouw and Josie Allan have signed scholarship contracts with the Ninja A-League side.

Walandouw re-joins Newcastle after spending the 2024 NPLW NSW season with the Jets’ academy team. The 18-year-old previously played for the Jets at A-Leagues level in 2022-23, making five appearances.

“After working through the Academy I’m feeling grateful to have been afforded this opportunity,” said Walandouw.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge that the competitive environment will bring and I’m excited to give my all this season to prove to both myself and the coaches that belong at this level.”

Jets head coach Ryan Campbell said Walandouw’s work ethic in the NPL campaign is what led to the scholarship deal.

“Chloe has worked extremely hard throughout the NPL season in our academy to earn this opportunity,” Campbell said.

“Her technical ability is sound which allowed her to get the player of the season for our Academy first grade side.

“With a solid pre-season and all the support she can receive in our professional environment, Chloe has the potential to be a very important player for the club moving forward.”

“Josie had a good end to last season which was capped by a number of performances off the bench,” said Jets head coach Ryan Campbell.

“She backed this up with a very good season for the Academy and I am looking forward to seeing her take this into the professional environment.

“Her ability to carry the ball at speed in tight areas is a key strength and something that I hope is able to be shown more often throughout not only this season but in many to come.”
