‘I tell you what… wow’: Newcastle Jets’ non-goal against Brisbane Roar

Did the ball cross the line? That was the glaring question after Newcastle Jets midfielder Callum Timmins came within a whisker of scoring against Brisbane Roar.

In Tuesday night’s Isuzu UTE A-League showdown at Suncorp Stadium, there was a moment that sparked debate after Timmins’ thunderous effort cannoned off the crossbar and onto the line before bouncing away in the 27th minute.

No goal was given with the score deadlocked at 0-0, with replays inconclusive in the absence of goal-line technology in the competition.

As the drama unfolded, Paramount+ commentator and former A-Leagues star Erik Paartalu initially said: “I tell you what, that’s gone across the line… wow.”

Paartalu then said: “Is it clear? It looks as though there might be a piece of the line but can’t tell from that angle conclusively.”

Commentator Teo Pellizzeri added: “If that’s the only angle they have, perhaps they can be forgiven for not making a definitive judgement and trusting the on-field call.”
