Auckland recruit’s thumping strike caps off All Whites’ big friendly win over Malaysia

A long-range stunner from Auckland FC signing Logan Rogerson capped off New Zealand’s 4-0 win over Malaysia in an international friendly at North Harbour Stadium on Monday night.

Former Wellington Phoenix winger Rogerson put the icing on the cake in the All Whites’ first international on home soil since March 2023 against China with a scorching strike from distance.

Phoenix star Kosta Barbarouses assisted Premier League striker Chris Wood to make it 3-0 to the hosts after Elijah Just and Matt Garbett put New Zealand two goals to the good, with all four goals coming in the second half.

It was a big night for new Auckland FC loanee Alex Paulsen, who was given a start in goal in place of Max Crocombe after five consecutive All Whites starts for the Burton Albion keeper.

Paulsen kept a clean sheet behind a New Zealand defensive line that featured Central Coast Mariners fullback Storm Roux. Roux’s last start for New Zealand came in November 2019 against Republic of Ireland.

The comprehensive win capped off a stellar international window for New Zealand, following a 3-0 win over Tahiti on the qualification trail for the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup.
