In-form winger re-signs with Jets

In-form winger Andrew Nabbout has re-signed with Newcastle Jets for a further two Hyundai A-League seasons, the club confirmed on Monday.

Nabbout, fresh off the back of a brace against Melbourne Victory is currently playing in a central role in the absence of Roy O’Donovan, but has flourished on the edge this season under Ernie Merrick.

The club’s leading goal scorer for the 2016/17 Hyundai A-League season is in a rich vein of form, with the dynamic attacker bagging four goals this campaign in addition to three assists.

On his contract extension, Nabbout said he was enjoying life in Newcastle both on and off the field.

“The Jets gave me a chance to return to the A-League and I’ve really been enjoying my football here,” said Nabbout.

“Newcastle is a great town, the fans are behind us and we’re playing some quality football at the moment.

“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be playing, we’ve got a strong squad of players who are committed to playing an entertaining, attacking style of football.

“Ernie has given the boys in the attacking third a license to be creative and I think everyone can see how much that’s benefiting our game – we’ve also been getting great service through the midfield and the entire squad is working together really well.

“There’s a lot happening around the club – both on and off the pitch – and I’m excited to be a part of that for the next two seasons.”

Jets coach, Ernie Merrick was pleased that Nabbout would continue to ply his trade in the Hunter for the next two seasons.

“Andrew has been outstanding initially on the wing and now filling in centrally,” said Merrick.

“He’s a quality person who brings a lot to this club both on and off the pitch, so I’m really pleased that he’ll be with us for another two seasons.”
