Reigning Liberty A-League Goalkeeper of the Year Morgan Aquino has departed Perth Glory to pursue an opportunity in the United States, the club confirmed.
Aquino started all of Glory’s 22 games in 2023-24 and made 126 saves at a success rate of 81.1% in what was a breakout season for the Perth local.
Aquino was named in the PFA Team of the Season, earned Glory’s Players’ Player and Members’ Player of the Year awards and clinched the Liberty A-League’s prestigious Goalkeeper of the Year award at the end of a brilliant individual campaign in the West.
The 22-year-old has made 41 appearances for Glory across two separate stints but the opportunity to take on a fresh challenge in the United States, at a club not yet officially confirmed, has led the Australia Under-20 international to the exit door.
Aquino says the support from her hometown fans made it a point of pride to play for Perth Glory.
“There’s no greater honour than playing for my hometown team,” she said.
“I’m super proud to be able to play in front of my family and friends each week.
“Thank you to all my teammates over the past years. You’ve inspired me to be better every day and thank you also to all the Perth Glory staff who have helped grow this club and the game.”
Aquino is the third confirmed departure from the club this off-season, following the retirement of club legend Natasha Rigby and striker Millie Farrow’s transfer to Sydney FC.
Glory CEO Anthony Radich praised the outgoing goalkeeper for her contribution to the club.
“Morgan has served the club extremely well for a number of years, has worked tirelessly to improve her game and thoroughly deserves this great opportunity that has presented itself in the U.S.,” Radich said.
“On behalf of everyone associated with Perth Glory, I would like to thank her for her efforts and wish her all the very best in the next stage of her football journey.”
