Caltex Socceroos midfielder Mark Milligan has left Melbourne Victory to take up an offer in Saudi Arabia.
Victory confirmed the departure of their former captain on Sunday night, six months after he was lured back for a third stint with Kevin Muscat’s men.
The club revealed they had rejected two previous offers over the past week but were unable to convince the 67-time international to stay.
“We obviously did everything we could to keep him, but Mark was adamant this was an opportunity he wanted to take up,” Muscat said in a club statement.
“It’s a very disappointing outcome, but these things happen in football so we must move forward and make sure we’re ready to tackle Newcastle on Saturday.”
Milligan is reportedly set to join up with Saudi Arabian giants Al-Ahli.
