Melbourne Victory’s new import tipped to be a ‘real force’ following A-Leagues arrival

Melbourne Victory have signed English defender Ellie Wilson for the 2024-25 Liberty A-League season.

Wilson makes the move to Melbourne from English club Wolves, where she scored four goals in 12 appearances last season.

The 27-year-old, who has represented England at Under-19, U20 and U23 levels, has played for Reading, Bristol City, London Bees and Sheffield United throughout her career.

“I’m really excited to be heading to the A-League Women’s with Melbourne Victory and can’t wait to get started,” Wilson said.

“After speaking to Jeff, the opportunity to play for Melbourne Victory felt too good to turn down. It’s exciting and challenging, and I feel like it is a great next step in my career.

“The team has been challenging for titles over the past couple of seasons, so I’m really looking forward to being part of such a competitive and ambitious group. I am hoping to contribute to that and help us achieve big things this season!”

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring Ellie over from the UK to Melbourne Victory,” said head coach Jeff Hopkins.

“She’s a versatile defender who can play at both centre-back and full-back and has the ability to physically impose herself on matches to become a real enforcer.

“We believe she will build a really strong relationship with our current defensive line and be a real force at the back for us this season.”
