Melbourne City have made it seven successive wins against Wellington Phoenix after prevailing 1-0 in their blockbuster Ninja A-League showdown.
City captain Rebekah Stott popped up with the game-winning goal in the 86th minute at ctrl:cyber Pitch on Sunday.
The Round 6 fixture appeared to be petering out for a draw, which would have been the first in the history of these two clubs.
But after Wellington hit the crossbar in the first half, reigning premiers City stunned Bev Priestman’s with four minutes of regulation remaining in Melbourne.
City are unbeaten through their three games to begin 2025-26, while Wellington suffered their first loss of the campaign.
The Phoenix will also be sweating on the fitness of Nepal international Sabitra ‘Samba’ Bhandari.

Samba returned to the starting XI for the first time since the opening round, having been sidelined with a knee injury.
A strong Nepalese contingent were in attendance to watch their national hero in Melbourne, however, Samba’s return lasted 58 minutes after hobbling off the field with an apparent lower leg problem.
