Melbourne City have re-signed the club’s all-time women’s leading goalscorer Hannah Wilkinson for the 2023-24 Liberty A-League season.
Wilkinson is back in Melbourne for her third season with City after making history at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The New Zealand international scored the nation’s first-ever goal at the World Cup, the match-winner against Norway as co-hosts the Football Ferns claimed a maiden World Cup victory – men’s or women’s – in the tournament opener.

“Playing with City is my favourite kind of football and I get so much joy out of playing with this team,” Wilkinson said.
“We play a really nice brand of football here and it’s a great team to play as a striker in with so much service from the quality players further up the pitch.
“The World Cup was an absolute dream. Women’s football is only going to get bigger and bigger off the back of it which is great for the A-Leagues.
“There are so many young girls who are now interested in Women’s football which is great to see and we hope to have more support than ever this season.”

Wilkinson scored six goals in 14 matches last season as City reached the Elimination Final, having bagged 14 in her maiden campaign with the club in 2021-22.
Her renewal comes on the back of the club also re-signing Holly McNamara, Rhianna Pollicina, Leah Davidson, Julia Grosso, Leticia McKenna, Daniela Galic, and Naomi Chinnama.
City have also signed Rebekah Stott (Brighton & Hove Albion), Laura Hughes (Canberra United), Lysianne Proulx (SCU Torrense) and Tijan McKenna (Perth Glory).
“We are pleased to have Hannah back in City colours,” said City head coach Dario Vidosic.
“We all saw how she performed on the world’s biggest stage, and we can’t wait to see her form continue into the upcoming season.
“We’re building a really strong force in attack and Hannah’s return will be important for that.
“She’s a footballer who has demonstrated her quality both in the league and internationally, and we’re looking forward to seeing more of that this season.”
