Melbourne City have confirmed Venezuela international striker Mariana Speckmaier has joined English club Durham FC for an undisclosed transfer fee.
The 27-year-old spent one season at City after a move from fellow Ninja A-League side Wellington Phoenix and wasted no time settling into her new surroundings.
Speckmaier burst onto the scene at City, scoring in each of City’s three AFC Women’s Champions League group-stage games prior to the Ninja A-League season.

She then bagged four goals in her first seven league games for City, and quickly became a key contributor to the club sealing the Ninja A-League Premiership without tasting defeat in the regular season.
Speckmaier scored 11 goals in 28 games for City but will not return for the 2025-26 campaign, having taken up an opportunity in the Women’s Super League 2 at Durham FC.

“This past year at Melbourne City has been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding of my career,” Speckmaier said. “I’ve made incredible memories and been part of a really special group of people.
“Winning the Premiers Plate was a moment I’ll never forget, and I’m so grateful to the coaches, staff, and my teammates – as well as the fans – for all their support throughout my time here.”
City director of football Michael Petrillo says Speckmaier’s sale to Durham FC sets an example for fellow City players to impress in the Ninja A-League and attract overseas interest.

“Mariana made a significant impact in her time at the club – not just with her goals, but through her work ethic and ability to step up in big moments,” Petrillo said.
“We’re proud to have played a role in her development and to have helped facilitate this next step in her career. Securing a transfer fee is also a positive outcome for the Club and reinforces the strength of our program.
“This is another example of Melbourne City providing a platform for players to grow and earn opportunities abroad, and we’re confident Mariana will continue to thrive in the next chapter of her journey.”
