Rejuvenated Glory celebrate 2-year first as big question emerges: ‘What the hell am I doing here?’

Has Adam Griffiths earned the top job at Perth Glory? That is the question after Sunday’s 2-0 win away to Macarthur Bulls in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Second-half goals from Nicholas Pennington – thanks to an outrageous Tom Lawrence assist, and Iraq international Charbel Shamoon settled the contest at Campbelltown Stadium, where Glory celebrated back-to-back A-Leagues wins for the first time since January 2023.

It was Perth’s first ever win in Campbelltown as the Bulls suffered their first home defeat of 2025-26.

Griffiths has been serving as interim head coach since stepped into the hot seat after David Zdrilic was dismissed by Glory last month and Perth are still searching for a new head coach.

“Of course I want it,” Griffiths told Paramount+ post-match.

“What the hell am I doing here on this planet except for coaching football? It’s the best job being a player and it’s even better being a coach.”

During Perth’s Round 6 showdown against Macarthur, Paramount+ reporter Daniel Garb discussed Griffiths’ future.

GLORY CANDIDATES: Who could replace David Zdrilic at Perth Glory?

“Just whether that lens to the announcement from the club regarding Adam Griffiths,” Garb said. “Whether they say ‘we’ve seen enough, you’ve moved us into a strong position. We are going to call the speculation around the head coaching role and you have it until the end of the season or maybe on a two-year contract’.

“I just wonder if this wins if it comes to go with the Newcastle result might be enough for Griffiths to lock the job away until the end of the campaign or a couple of seasons.”

Paramount+ co-commentator and former A-Leagues coach Phil Moss replied: “I agree.

“If they’re looking locally… we’ve heard names like Graham Arnold, John Aloisi, Patrick Kisnorbo.

“I know for a fact that Arnold isn’t coming because he’s tied up with Iraq and the games in March. I believe Aloisi and Kisnorbo aren’t.

“Unless they’re looking to go overseas to a foreign coach, then why not Adam Griffiths? If he does go back-to-back today, that’s a pretty good rehearsal for the top job.”
