Tony Lochhead is seeking to become the fifth New Zealander to play in the English Premier League in a 10-day trial with Middlesbrough.
Lochhead will link up with Boro’s first team squad and look to impress Gareth Southgate with a view to securing a full-time club contract.
If he is successful, he’ll join Ryan Nelsen (Blackburn), Simon Elliot (Fulham), Danny Hay (Leeds United) and Lee Norfolk (Ipswich Town) as New Zealanders who have tested themselves in the EPL.
Southgate says he is looking to bolster the depth of his squad in the lead-up to the Premier League season and create pressure for places amongst the defenders in the Boro squad.
