Auckland FC lure Olyroo back to the Isuzu UTE A-League: ‘I’m raring to go’

Reigning Premiers Auckland FC have signed Australian youth international Lachlan Brook ahead of the club’s second season in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Brook joins the Black Knights from Real Salt Lake following the mutual termination of his contract at the Major League Soccer outfit in late July. The 24-year-old made 12 MLS appearances for RSL and featured in both of the club’s CONCACAF Champions Cup matches against CS Herediano of Costa Rica in February.

Brook is no stranger to the Isuzu UTE A-League. His career began at hometown club Adelaide United where he was named the Isuzu UTE A-League’s joint-Young Footballer of the Year in 2019-20 alongside Taras Gomulka.

Brook is back in the Isuzu UTE A-League after one year in the United States.

He returned to Adelaide for a second stint in 2020 on loan from English side Brentford before a permanent move to Western Sydney Wanderers in 2023.

Brook claimed a share of Western Sydney’s Golden Boot award in his only season at the Wanderers (nine goals – equal with Nicolas Milanovic) before sealing a transfer to Real Salt Lake for an undisclosed fee.

Now, the Australian Under-18 and Under-23 youth international has returned to the Isuzu UTE A-League to reinforce an Auckland attack blunted by the off-season departures of Neyder Moreno and Max Mata.

“It is great to be in Auckland and part of an exciting club set up,” Brook said.

“There is so much hype and noise for this team and what they have achieved – on and off the pitch.

“I have heard so much about the fans and the numbers that turn out to support us. I can’t wait to get out there and show them what I am all about. To say I’m raring to go would be an understatement.”

Brook is Auckland head coach Steve Corica’s second signing of the transfer window following the arrival of goalkeeper Scott Morris from Stoke City.

“He (Brook) is versatile, has an eye for goal and knows the league,” Corica said.

“He achieved some great things at Adelaide and Western Sydney Wanderers, and with more than 100 games here and abroad, he’s a proven professional. It is no secret we needed to boost our attack this season, so we’re looking forward to having him at Auckland.”
