Western United have confirmed inaugural Liberty A-League squad member Julia Sardo has signed on for a third season at the club.
The 29-year-old right-back has become a key figure at Western since the 2022-23 campaign – the club’s first in the competition. The former Melbourne City and Perth Glory defender has made 27 appearances for Western and is determined to build on back-to-back finals finishes by pushing for the club’s first piece of silverware in season 2024-25.
“It means a lot to come back to Western for season three,” Sardo said.
“Getting to the finals twice is a massive achievement, and we are all fueled up to win it this year.
“It’s going to be amazing to be able to play in front of our fans at our own home ground at Ironbark Fields. They are a big part of this group, without their support we wouldn’t be where we are.”

Sardo is the third foundation player to re-sign for Western for the upcoming Liberty A-league season, having joined twin sisters Adriana and Melissa Taranto in recommitting to the club.
Western United General Manager of Football Mal Impiombato says Sardo has become a “pivotal member” of the club across her first two seasons in green and black.
“Julia has been a significant part of our community since the beginning of our Liberty A-League journey and we are all delighted to have her commit for a third season,” he said.
“The respect that she commands from her peers, coaches and fans have made her a pivotal member of our Green and Black family, and I am greatly looking forward to watching Julia further her impact on our program in 2024-25.”
