Melbourne City academy prospect Luke Becvinovski was among the goalscorers as the CommBank Joeys defeated Wales Under-17s 2-1 at the International Youth Football tournament in Japan.
The Joeys lost 3-1 to a Niigata select side in their tournament opener but bounce back in game two on Saturday.
Becvinovski set the tone with Australia’s opening goal against the Welsh.

Luke is the son of Sash Becvinovski, Victorian football’s greatest post-war goalscorer.
The 16-year-old striker has impressed at City in 2025, scoring 21 goals across the U23 (18) and senior academy (3) teams this season.
Also on the scoresheet was Sydney FC youngster and captain Miles Milliner as Australia look ahead to Monday’s clash with Japan.
The starting XI against Wales was made up of 10 A-Leagues prospects who were at Isuzu UTE A-League clubs in 2024-25: Jai Ajanovic (Central Coast Mariners), Miles Milliner, Will Kengni (Western United), Becvinovski, Akol Akon (Sydney FC), Feyzo Kasumovic (Adelaide United), Emile Katrib (Western Sydney Wanderers), Julian Recchia (Melbourne City), Beckham Baker (Melbourne City) and Josh Cetinic (Western Sydney Wanderers).
