Jets defender Jackson suffers serious knee injury

Newcastle Jets’ season of woe has continued with the club confirming defender Lachlan Jackson suffered a serious knee injury in last weekend’s loss to Wellington Phoenix.

Jackson, 24, lasted just 25 minutes at Sky Stadium after he turned awkwardly in the turf.

Scans over the weekend revealed he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament as well as suffering tears to both his lateral meniscus and medial ligament.

Jackson will undergo reconstructive surgery in coming days and will be sidelined for an indefinite period.

The injury is a bitter blow not only for the embattled Jets but also Jackson, who was enjoying a consistent run in the side for much of the 2019/20 Season.

The Townsville-born central defender has started 11 of 14 games for the Hunter club this season, making a team-high 67 clearances.

The Jets are currently four points adrift at the bottom of the Hyundai A-League ladder ahead of Saturday afternoon’s home clash against Western United FC.
