Retiring Sydney FC skipper Alex Brosque has penned an emotional message to Sydney FC fans, thanking them for all their support now his Hyundai A-League career has come to an end.
In his final ‘Captain’s Column’ on Sydney FC’s official website, Brosque spoke of his delight to go out on a memorable note as he led the club to their fourth Hyundai A-League title.
The 35-year-old said he was thrilled to have won a third championship with the club – especially doing it with the current playing group.
“We’ve a fantastic culture at this club, we’re one big group of mates and everyone gets along,” Brosque wrote.
“It’s that comradery that’s seen us go from strength to strength in the past three seasons and it’s been an honour to lead this group of players.”

The Sky Blues skipper got the perfect send-off, with his side defeating Perth Glory in a penalty shootout in last Sunday’s Grand Final.
After scores were tied at 0-0 after 120 minutes, goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne pulled off two vital stops in the shootout to get Sydney FC over the line.
“I had faith in each and every one of our penalty takers – but most of all ‘Redders’. He’s been immense this season, an absolute legend and it’s a fitting way for him to end his season as a hero,” Brosque said.
“The celebrations went long into the night, and fittingly too. We’ve worked so hard this season, under a new Head Coach, displaced playing at three different stadiums and with a number of new players – it felt like everything, all our sacrifices, had paid off in the end.”

Brosque said his highlights of the season included becoming the highest scorer in Sydney Derby history after finding the net in all three clashes against the Wanderers in 2019, as well as the 6-1 thrashing of Melbourne Victory in the Semi Final.
He vowed he would still be associated with the club in some capacity and thanked the fans for all their support.
“It’s been a privilege to play for you, you’re our 12th man and to walk out each and every week to hear you chanting our names and backing the boy’s tirelessly,” Brosque wrote.
“It can’t be put into words how much I’ve enjoyed playing for you and how much the boys appreciate you.”
