Adelaide United winger Craig Goodwin has returned to training after suffering concussion in Friday night’s win over Melbourne Victory.
Goodwin, who took a nasty knock to his forehead in the 90th minute of United’s match with the Victory, was cautiously restricted to very light duties during his first training back with the Reds’ squad. He is currently undergoing the Return to Play Program, which is a Concussion Policy set out by Football Federation Australia (FFA).
After Goodwin declared to United fans over the weekend that he was feeling better after suffering the concussion, Adelaide United’s General Manager of Football, Ante Kovacevic said the Club will not rush Goodwin’s return and are taking it day-by-day.
“The medical staff are reasonably pleased with Craig’s progress but we need to make sure that he is fit and ready by the standards set out by the FFA,” Kovacevic said.
“It was a very tough blow – enough to make the doctors take him to hospital and monitor him very closely, but he’s a tough player.
“We will take each day as it comes before making a decision on whether he will play on the weekend.”
Goodwin will step up his training later this week and will then need to get through Friday’s main session with the group to show he will be fit for Round 21.
