Sydney FC midfielder Brendon Santalab has been ruled out for eight weeks after suffering a shoulder injury during Saturday’s 2-0 win over the Melbourne Victory.
The 26-year-old will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair cartilage damage to his right shoulder, suffered when he fell heavily in a challenge shortly after half-time.
Santalab has scored twice in six appearances this season for Sydney, who sit just two points behind Hyundai A-League leaders Adelaide after nine rounds.
“It’s unfortunate but that’s football,” Santalab said.
“The positive thing is that I will be fit to play again this season, so I’m just concentrating on my recovery and doing everything I can to help the boys until I’m ready to get back on the field.”
