Melbourne City 2-2 Newcastle Jets

Ross McCormack was denied a fairytale farewell despite Melbourne City twice coming from behind to rescue an entertaining 2-2 draw with Newcastle Jets in the round’s opening encounter on Thursday night.

The on-loan McCormack had a goal-bound attempt for a winner dramatically cleared off the line in stoppage time as the final match of his injury replacement contract finished all square.

City had young star Daniel Arzani and the in-form Dario Vidosic to thank for cancelling out the leads that Nikolai Topor-Stanley and Jason Hoffman had given Newcastle.
