With 5 rounds to go, it’s a mere formality that Sydney FC’s Brazilian striker Bobo will claim this season’s Hyundai A-League Golden Boot.
The Sky Blues marksman is 10 goals clear on the scoring charts but there’s another milestone which the striker is certain to be aiming for.
City’s Uruguayan star Bruno Fornaroli holds the all-time record for most goals scored in a single season with 23 (regular season).
But with Bobo already on 22 and five matches still remaining in the season, you’d fancy the Brazilian to comfortably eclipse that mark.
22 Goals: Bobo (Sydney FC)
The Brazilian has already beat Marc Janko’s tally of 16 goals for the Sky Blues and will turn his attention to setting a new A-League record in the last five matches.
And Sydney’s favourable run home will give the 33-year-old the perfect platform to set an impressive new mark.
The Sky Blues face strugglers Brisbane Roar, Central Coast Mariners and Perth Glory in the next three matches.
And with back-to-back home games against Adelaide and Victory to finish the season, could Bobo crack 30 goals for the season?
THE CHASING PACK
12 Goals: Adrian Mierzejewski (Sydney FC), Oriol Riera (Western Sydney Wanderers)
Only a late surge from Bobo’s teammate, Mierzejewski, and cross-town rival Riera, could now prevent the Brazilian from winning the Golden Boot.
Mierzejewski has consistently delivered for the Sky Blues this season, scoring 10 goals in his last 12 appearances.
Riera has also been in superb scoring touch for the Wanderers having netted 5 goals in his last 4 appearances for the Red and Black.
THE DEPARTED SHARP-SHOOTER
14 Goals: Ross McCormack (Melbourne City)
Having played 17 games in his injury replacement stint for Melbourne City, Ross McCormack scored a total of 14 goals.
Setting the Hyundai A-League alight with his spectacular goals, McCormack proved a massive hit for Warren Joyce’s side in his short loan stint from Aston Villa.
