Wellington Phoenix’s new Serbian star has become an instant fan favourite with his strike taking out the Round 16 Hyundai A-League goal of the week.
In a vote by Hyundai A-League fans, Ljujic’s stunning long-range shot helped Phoenix salvage a point in the 1-1 draw with the Wanderers on Saturday.
After Andrew Durante’s crunching tackle won possession in midfield, Ljujic picked up the ball about 35 yards from goal, took one touch forward and when whack!
The venomous strike dipped on its way past Vedran Janjetovic into the corner of the net.
Ljujic’s cannon took out a whopping 61.5% of the vote to easily get the fans’ vote as the round’s best goal.
Newcastle Jets attacker Jason Hoffman came in second with 31.6% of the vote for his match-winner effort against Brisbane Roar.
And Melbourne City super-sub Marcin Budzinski was a distant third in the poll, with his late equaliser against the Mariners picking up 6.9% of the final vote.
