Central Coast Mariners winger Andrew Hoole urged his teammates to be more daring in attack following a frustrating 1-0 loss away to Adelaide United on Boxing Day.
The visitors enjoyed the majority of possession at Coopers Stadium but were often too tentative in slumping to a third successive defeat.
Kwabena Appiah and Connor Pain did manage to test Paul Izzo, but Hoole believes the team must be more adventurous to break a three-game scoreless run.
“We didn’t create enough chances. Simple as that,” Hoole told Fox Sports.
“If you don’t create chances you don’t score. We get into good areas and we seem to end up back at halfway.
“Is it a confidence thing? I’m not too sure.
“We need to keep believing that when we go forward we can be dangerous, and that will come.
“Credit to Adelaide, they played well and I think they deserve three points overall.”
The narrow loss left Central Coast four points off the Finals Series places, although they will hope to reduce the deficit when Wellington Phoenix visit Gosford on New Year’s Eve.
