“The appointment of Harry Kewell is seen as a strong message for long-term development orientation, the beginning of a new era for Hanoi Football Club.”

Earlier this week, the former Leeds United, Liverpool and Australia winger addressed the Hanoi FC squad for the first time.

Kewell outlined his “one rule” for the team, who are sixth in Vietnam’s V.League 1.

“Thank you. I’m excited to be here. Looking forward to working with you all,” he said.

“I only have one rule. Just work hard. That’s as simple as it gets.

“I’m a firm believer if you want to come in and learn, I’m happy.

“I just want you come here and enjoy it. I will test you physically and mentally, in every way. I’m a firm believer in training is where the work gets done. That will prepare you for the games. The games you will enjoy.

“This is where we learn. This is where we get Hanoi back to where we belong.”

Kewell became the third successive Australian to lead F.Marinos after Ange Postecoglou and Kevin Muscat when he left his role as a Celtic coach at the beginning of the 2024 campaign.

It was his first head coaching role since 2021 via Barnet in the UK.

Kewell then took F.Marinos to their maiden AFC Champions League final but despite a 2-1 first-leg win, they were swept aside 5-1 by Hernan Crespo’s Al Ain.

He was then dismissed in July 2024.
