Tune in to ABC1 each Sunday at 3pm nationally for LIVE Westfield W-League action, this week featuring Melbourne Victory visiting the out-of-form Brisbane Roar as the pair meet for the first time since last year’s Grand Final.
On that occasion Melbourne Victory stormed to a deserved 2-0 win to secure their maiden Westfield W-League crown.
Form over the past month suggests a repeat of that scoreline could be on the cards this Sunday in the match at Brisbane’s Goodwin Park.
Since losing on the opening day of the season, the Victory have collected three impressive wins and a rare draw on Sydney FC’s home turf.
In contrast, the Roar have suffered an unthinkably bad run of four losses from five outings, capped by a shock 2-1 home defeat against outsiders Western Sydney Wanderers last Sunday.
However, ABC TV viewers and local fans can forget the form book because this contest is likely to be hard-fought and tightly contested thanks to the sheer quality of the two sides.
The Roar boast a line-up full of national team players who will face up to numerous Westfield Matildas team-mates, former Roar attacking star Lisa De Vanna among them.
This season’s ABC’s Sunday afternoon broadcast games will again be hosted by Stephanie Brantz, with former Westfield Matildas and W-League star Sarah Walsh joining Peter Wilkins in commentary.
