Perth Glory’s stuttering Hyundai A-League campaign has hit a new low with Thursday night’s loss to Brisbane Roar their fifth on the bounce leaving their finals hopes in tatters.
It’s the club’s worst run of form in almost five years, since they also lost five straight in February of the 2012/13 Season.
Defence has been the major issue for Kenny Lowe’s side, with 17 goals conceded in those five defeats, including back-to-back 3-2 losses on the road.
“It’s not acceptable for any team in this league. It’s as simple as that,” a dejected skipper Andy Keogh told Fox Sports.
“We played really well first half and were in control. Again second half we were in great positions but two set pieces and a long ball over the top has undone us really.
“It’s no one’s fault, we’re a team. It’s just really disappointing.”
The only bright spots for Glory in the loss at Suncorp Stadium were two goals to winger Chris Harold and another excellent display from marquee man Diego Castro.
The Spanish whiz unlocked Roar’s defence time and again with his passing range, and he’s now scored three and assisted two of Perth Glory’s last seven Hyundai A-League goals.
For Roar, the win ended a run of four straight defeats in front of their home fans, which was their joint-worst run in the Hyundai A-League.
They finished strong with two goals in the second half. It’s the first time since December 17 they have managed to score a goal after half-time.
