Current table position
Melbourne City: 6th
Auckland FC: 1st

Round 12 result
Melbourne City: 1-0 loss to Newcastle Jets (H)
Auckland FC: 2-0 win over Brisbane Roar (A)

Melbourne City were frustrated in their 1-0 loss at home to the Jets, unable to break down the Newcastle defence and conceding from their one and only defensive lapse.

Auckland went up to Brisbane and beat them at their own game, physically dominant on their way to a 2-0 win.

City’s Kai Trewin has been building the attacking side of his game to go with his defensive talent, yet to play a match with lower than 75% passing accuracy since his move back into the midfield in December.

Winger Lachlan Brook has been in terrific form for Auckland, scoring or assisting in six of his last eight matches.

This will be the first meeting between these sides this season.

Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar

Friday, January 16 – HBF Park – 9:45pm AEDT

Current table position
Perth Glory: 9th
Brisbane Roar: 5th

Round 12 result
Perth Glory: 3-0 win over Central Coast Mariners (H)
Brisbane Roar: 2-0 loss to Auckland FC (H)

Perth Glory were dominant in their 3-0 win against Central Coast, having nine shots on target while not allowing the Mariners any.

Welsh midfielder Tom Lawrence showed that he is a cut above with a tidy assist for Adam Taggart’s goal and a goal of his own, an olimpico in stoppage time.

Brisbane struggled against league leaders Auckland, goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis did well to keep the damage to two goals.

A Perth win here will see them leapfrog Brisbane into the six, while a win for Brisbane will take them back into the top four and the fight for the Premiership.

Western Sydney Wanderers v Newcastle Jets

Saturday, January 17 – CommBank Stadium – 5:00pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Western Sydney Wanderers: 11th
Newcastle Jets: 4th

Round 12 result
Western Sydney Wanderers: 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory (A)
Newcastle Jets: 1-0 win over Melbourne City (A)

Western Sydney and Newcastle both did the same thing last weekend. They went down to Melbourne, scored a goal, kept a clean sheet and took the three points home with them.

Newcastle’s fourth win in five matches took them into the top four, while Western Sydney’s first win since November pulled them up off the bottom of the table.

The Jets didn’t get their usual effectiveness from their attackers, but one defensive error from City to pounce on was all Lachie Rose needed to take himself to the outright lead in the golden boot race.

The Wanderers were superb defensively, completely stifling the Victory out wide and limiting them to just three shots on target for the night. They’ll need to repeat this effort if they’re to stop a Newcastle side on a roll.

Central Coast Mariners v Macarthur FC

Saturday, January 17 – polytec Stadium – 6:00pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Central Coast Mariners: 12th
Macarthur FC: 3rd

Round 12 result
Central Coast Mariners: 3-0 loss to Perth Glory (A)
Macarthur FC: 3-0 loss to Sydney FC (H)

Both Central Coast and Macarthur had nights to forget last week, being on the receiving end of two brilliant attacking displays.

The Mariners looked all at sea during their 3-0 loss to Perth Glory but they’ll be hoping to bounce back against the Bulls, with Alfie McCalmont and Miguel Di Pizio arguably the two players they’ll turn to in order to make things happen.

It was an uncharacteristically poor outing against Sydney FC for Bulls goalkeeper Filip Kurto, but the Pole rarely has two of those in a row. Having the formidable keeper at his best will be key for Macarthur in the second half of the season.

Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory

Saturday, January 17 – Coopers Stadium – 7:35pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Adelaide United: 8th
Melbourne Victory: 7th

Round 12 result
Adelaide United: 2-2 draw with Wellington Phoenix (A)
Melbourne Victory: 1-0 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers (H)

Adelaide got themselves off to a fast start against Wellington but they couldn’t hold them off in the second half.

Victory were brought back down to earth from their four match winning streak by an early penalty against Western Sydney, and were unable to claw their way back in the match.

Adelaide look to have found another young gem in playmaking midfielder Ryan White. The 21-year-old opened the scoring last week and was their best player in a rough match against Central Coast the week before.

Victory winger Reno Piscopo looked bright as he made his long awaited return from injury in the second half against the Wanderers. Having a healthy Piscopo able to take on more minutes will only help Victory against and Adelaide defence that has been unsettled in recent weeks.

However, the return of experienced centre back Bart Vriends will certainly help Airton Andrioli’s side.

Sydney FC v Wellington Phoenix

Sunday, January 18 – Allianz Stadium – 5:00pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Sydney FC:
2nd
Wellington Phoenix:
10th

Round 12 result
Sydney FC:
3-0 win over Macarthur FC (A)
Wellington Phoenix:
2-2 draw with Adelaide United (H)

Sydney were dominant in their dismantling of Macarthur last weekend, while Wellington came from 2-0 down against Adelaide to salvage a point.

Peruvian winger Piero Quispe has been finding his feet in the Isuzu UTE A-League in recent weeks, and last week he scored his first goal to go with the two assists he had already.

Strikers Pat Wood and Victor Campuzano both scored to take them to three goals each for the season.

Wellington defender Isaac Hughes was one of their best against Adelaide, scoring a goal, creating two chances and going undefeated in the air and they’ll need another solid performance from him at Allianz Stadium.

The Phoenix have added experienced All Whites defender Bill Tuiloma from MLS side Charlotte FC in a bid to shore up their back three, although there’s only a slim chance he’ll be fit to start this game.

This game will see the Sky Blues run out at their spiritual home – Allianz Stadium – for the first time this season.
