“Sir Alex truly deserves the accolades as a legend of world football,” said Gallop.

“His longevity at the highest echelon of the game is remarkable in itself, but to achieve success so consistently in England and Europe is the mark of greatness.

“Australian football fans are very much looking forward to seeing Manchester United come to Sydney in July for the match against the Foxtel A-League All Stars.

“Sir Alex will move into his newly announced role as director and ambassador of Manchester United, and I speak on behalf of the Australian football community in wishing him well for the next stage of his amazing football journey.”
