Melbourne City have confirmed the departure of four of the club’s Premiership winners from the 2023-24 Liberty A-League campaign.
Overseas imports Julia Grosso, Emina Ekić and Bárbara have all bid farewell to the club along with Young Matildas defender Naomi Chinnama, who has ended her time at City after four seasons.
Both Grosso and Ekić have exercised clauses in their contracts to explore overseas opportunities. Ekić, a Bosnia and Herzegovina international, made 27 appearances and scored 12 goals for City across two stints at the club.
Grosso meanwhile departs after two seasons at the club; the American won City’s Player of the Year award in 2022-23 and was a key contributor to the Premiership in 2023-24.
Brazilian goalkeeper Bárbara joins Chinnama in departing City at the conclusion of their respective contracts.
For Chinnama it’s the end of an era at City; the 20-year-old has spent four seasons at the club and made 43 appearances in City blue. Throughout her time at the club Chinnama became one of the standout players in Australia’s next generation of international talent.
Bárbara’s short-term contract has come to a close after the goalkeeper signed for City in late February. The 35-year-old kept five clean sheets in her eight appearances for the club.
