Ex-Melbourne City Westfield W-League boss Joe Montemurro has made a winning start to his stint in charge of English heavyweights Arsenal over the weekend.
Montemurro over saw the Gunners 3-1 win over Sunderland to book the club’s spot in the semi-finals of the Continental Cup.
Goals to Jordan Nobbs and Vivianne Miedema had Arsenal 2-0 up at the break and while the Black Cats pulled one back in the second half, Beth Mead’s late goal handed Montemurro a dream start.
Montemurro was appointed as Arsenal’s new boss last month after a hugely successful stint with City, guiding the club to an unbeaten Championship-Premiership double in their inaugural 2015/16 Season.
He was part of the club’s staff again last season as City went back-to-back in the Westfield W-League, while also assisting Michael Valkanis in the Hyundai A-League during the 2016/17 campaign.
He’s now just 90 minutes away from guiding the Gunners to the Continental Cup final, with either Chelsea, Manchester City or Reading awaiting them in the semis.
