Former Melbourne City star Daniela Galic has joined Dutch champions FC Twente.
Galic – the 2023-24 Boost Young Footballer of the Year in the Liberty A-League – has signed a contract until June 2026 following her departure from reigning premiers City.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in Melbourne, where the teenage sensation played key role in the club’s Premiership win and run to last season’s Grand Final while she was called up by the CommBank Matildas for the first time as a train-on player in February.
Dubbed the “future of Australian football”, she made 39 appearances for City and scored nine goals to go with nine assists.
In 2023-24, Galic scored a career-high seven goals for Vidosic’s City and supplied six assists.
“I am very happy to sign with this team and this big club,” Galic said via FC Twente.
“From my first contact with Rene (Roord) and (head coach) Joran (Pot) the feeling was good. FC Twente is a big club and last season they became champions of the Netherlands.
“Now they will try to qualify for the Champions League. I am ready to start training and playing football.”
Galic added: “The culture at the club and the way FC Twente plays suits me well. I want to be part of this team, they have scored a lot of goals in recent seasons and as a striker you obviously want to score goals.
“That is certainly why I want to make this transfer, because then I can contribute to scoring goals so that we can win games. I am excited and looking forward to meeting my teammates.”
Galic was recognised as one of the best wonderkids in world football in March.
She made the annual NXGN women’s list as GOAL ranked the world’s top teenage talents.

“I am incredibly proud that Daniela Galic is making the switch to FC Twente Women,” said technical manager Rene Roord.
“She is the greatest talent in Australia and is one of the greatest talents in the world.
“She played a World Cup Under-20 for Australia at the age of 16. The fact that she chose us despite many options makes us very happy.”
