Managers who struggled to field a competitive XI last weekend are set to be boosted by the return of a host of international stars to club football.
Golden boot leader Marc Janko is poised to be rushed straight back into the Sky Blues’ side to face Adelaide, while Wellington Phoenix duo Nathan Burns and Michael McGlinchey will slot in for the league-leaders.
Socceroo midfielders Mark Milligan and Aaron Mooy are back for Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City FC respectively, with in-form Olyroo forwards Jamie Maclaren and Andrew Hoole returning for Perth and Newcastle.
Victory will also welcome back Kosta Barbarouses after he was originally selected in the All Whites squad which went down to Korea Republic and Daniel Georgievski who was part of the FYR Macedonia squad that drew with the Socceroos.
Make sure you check out the all-important ins-and-outs ahead of tonight’s Round 24 opener, which sees finals-hopeful’s Brisbane Roar host a rejuvenated Mariners outfit.
Hyundai A-League Round 24 – Ins and Outs
Tomorrow night will see Western Sydney host Melbourne City, with Tony Popovic’s men looking to turn the tables on a City side that has won three on trot.
Former Wanderer Aaron Mooy helped settle the result last time round with a cracking goal from distance, while the Wanderers will have fellow Socceroo Tomi Juric back in their arsenal.
Premiership contenders Sydney FC and Adelaide United meet in a blockbuster clash on Saturday night with the Reds missing injured playmaker Marcelo Carrusca.
Janko’s return is a big boost for the Sky Blues, while young midfielder Terry Antonis is also a chance to return from injury.
The race for the Premiers’ Plate will hit a critical stretch as the top-of-the-table Phoenix host second-placed Melbourne Victory at Westpac Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Phoenix are reeling after a lackluster 3-0 loss to Sydney FC but will be boosted by the return of their international representatives.
The final match of the round will see an improved Newcastle hoping their luck has changed against a Glory side that finally brought their winless streak to an end last weekend.
Returning Olyroos strikers Andrew Hoole and Jamie Maclaren – who both scored hat-tricks at the AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers this week – will square off and look set to have a big say on the result.
The Scouts XI
Burns, McGlinchey and Hoole all return to our starting side at the expense of Golec, Gallagher and Marinkovic, who started on the bench for Glory last weekend.
The injured Marcelo Carrusca has been traded for Aaron Mooy, while Keogh retains the captain’s armband as we think he’ll be determined to end a controversial week for Perth with a couple of goals.
