Fantasy A-League Scout

Fantasy A-League managers got their first taste of the big time in round one with some thriving under the pressure while others endured a frustrating time in their debut in the hot seat. But if you struggled to make an impact in the opening weekend of football, don’t worry – The Scout is here to get you back on track.

A reminder if you missed deadline day for round one it’s not too late to sign up with all the head-to-head leagues not set to commence until gameweek three. So sign up your friends and family today for the opportunity to win great weekly prizes and the ultimate grand final experience!

Here’s your ultimate form guide for round two –

Star Man

Besart Berisha ($381,000) –  This guy is simply must have. He scored from the penalty spot and provided the assist for Archie Thompson’s goal to accrue 12 points in total, more than any other player in round one. He doesn’t come cheap ($381,000) but given he’s the main man at the point of a potent victory attack, can you afford not to have him?

Dud of the week

Shannon Cole (283,000) –  Heading into round one he was the most expensive Wanderers player ($314,000) but the versatile defender failed to live up to his billing, accruing -1 points against Melbourne Victory. The leaky Wanderers defence copped four goals and Cole picked up a yellow card to compound a horror night. He could be one to trade in to save money and strengthen other areas of the pitch.

Coach Killer

Matt McKay ($206,000) –  The midfielder lost his cool against Adelaide United and got himself sent off for dissent. His straight red card ensured he finished the match with -2 points and left managers pulling their hair out for picking the usually consistent Socceroo. Suspended for two matches, use one of your two weekly trades if he’s in your team – steer clear if he’s not.

Value pick

Corey Gameiro (222,000) –  Scored goals for fun in pre-season and continued that form into round one with an absolute belter to hand Sydney FC the lead against Melbourne City. Was an absolute steal prior to round one ($188,000) but still superb value if you can’t quite squeeze a superstar into your forward line.

Underrated

Matt Sim ($120,000) –  It has been a meteoric rise for Sim after making the leap NPL football and he is flourishing at Hyundai A-League level with the Mariners. The versatile left fullback/winger scored 6 points in the opening round and after netting four goals in the Westfield FFA Cup on Tuesday, he is sure to be full of confidence. At just $120,000  Sim is a bargain.

Pick of the week

Michael McGlinchey ($165,000)  – The Kiwi playmaker made a brilliant debut for the Phoenix scoring the equaliser for the hosts and playing the full 90 minutes. His total of 9 points for the match was 2 nd  only to Besart Berisha and at just $165,000 – he’s a steal in midfield.

Fantasy A-League round two team.

Scouts XI

The Scout’s team enjoyed a reasonable opening round scoring a solid 56 points – sitting in 818 th  place overall.

But every great manager has to make tough decisions and with two ‘swaps’ available per week (34 max per season) – The Scout has decided to change up his squad this week.

OUT –  Corey Brown >   IN –  Craig Goodwin

OUT –  Jeronimo Neumann >   IN –  Corey Gameiro

Brown was on The Scout’s bench in round 1 but after failing to make an appearance for the Roar exciting Adelaide United wingback Craig Goodwin gets a chance in the starting XI (Alex Gersbach drops back to the bench).

Jeronimo Neumann came on as a late substitute for the Jets in round one and given Corey Gameiro’s hot form – a straight swap looks to be a smart move.
