She’s one of a host of American stars shining in the Westfield W-League this season, marshalling the defence of the in-form Sydney FC.
Emily Sonnett is only 24 but is fast on her way to become one of the world’s leading defenders and a major factor in the Sky Blues six-match unbeaten run.
As part of our exclusive “One on One” series, we found out what Sonnett would be doing if she wasn’t a footballer as well as her thoughts on the Westfield W-League.
And we also got her opinion on the rise of the Westfield Matildas, who are the hottest nation in women’s football after a record-breaking 2017.
“They Westfield Matildas] are a young squad and they are building,” Sonnett told www.w-league.com.au.
“And them having this recent success…it’s because of their work ethic and from what I’ve seen in the NWSL [National Women’s Soccer League in the US] there’s a lot of quality from Australian players.”
