When it comes to accomplished midfielders in the Hyundai A-League, there aren’t too many better than Melbourne City star Luke Brattan.
Bursting onto the scene as part of Ange Postecoglou’s all-conquering Brisbane Roar outfit, Brattan has become one of the best technicians in the competition.
The 27-year-old, who was once on the books of EPL giants Manchester City, is one of the real characters in the Hyundai A-League and is a key cog in City’s title push.
We caught up with Brattan as part of our “Extra Time” series and in a wide-ranging interview he spoke about the jokers in the City team, his football inspirations and the best banter targets in the league.
He’s also got an extra spring in his step this week with the Melbourne Derby on Saturday night at AAMI Park.
“Getting a win in the A-League is good every week and beating everyone is always good because it’s such a competitive league,” he said.
“But when I was at Brisbane I always said I wanted to play in a Derby and now I’ve done that, it’s very special.
“They are always great games. Our fans are always competitive with their fans which pushes us on the field as well.”
