Elvis has left the building! Sydney accept six-figure offer for Kamsoba

A “life-changing move” awaits Elvis Kamsoba after Sydney FC accepted a six-figure transfer fee for the forward.

Sydney did not disclose the fee, but Kamsoba is set to join a club in the Middle East, subject to contractual requirements.

Kamsoba spent one season with Sydney in the Isuzu UTE A-League following his arrival from rivals Melbourne Victory, scoring five goals in 24 appearances.

“It’s a life-changing move for me and for my family and I’m thankful and grateful to Sydney FC for agreeing to the deal,” the 26-year-old Burundian international said.

“I’ve had great support from this club and my career progression is thanks to the backing I’ve had from everyone, including our members.

“I’d like to thank Steve and his coaching staff for believing in me, also the Sydney FC Board and CEO for allowing me to take this opportunity, and to the Sky Blues members for getting behind me.

“I’m looking forward to the future and to returning one day.”

The Sky Blues missed the finals for the first time in six years, but Kamsoba was a shining light.

Kamsoba scored three goals in the A-League Men across 17 matches, while he added another two in the Australia Cup.

Sydney head coach Steve Corica, who signed a new contract in the off-season, added: “We’d have liked Elvis to have stayed with the club as he showed some great promise last season.

“However, it’s a fantastic deal and a great move for him so we felt we shouldn’t stand in his way.

“It opens up more chances for players within our squad and further opportunities to bring in another attacking player before the start of the season.”
