Djite ready to thrive under Gombau

Bruce Djite is ready for a breakout A-League season and believes that the secret to his success will be new Spanish coach Josep Gombau.

The 26-year-old attacker has set himself some big goals for the year ahead and thinks that the new system that Gombau has implemented at the club will help him to thrive.

Having had injuries hinder his campaign last season, Djite is excited to again show the nation just how deadly he is in front of goal.

“This is definitely a big year for myself and I believe there is no coach better to do it under than Josep,” said Djite.

“The way he wants to play with a possession based game is extremely beneficial for attackers and will provide me with more scoring opportunities.

“I will be more involved and looking to put more goals away.”

While Djite couldn-t hide his excitement in Gombau-s new tactics he does admit it has taken a little time to adjust.

“There was definitely an adjustment period for everyone but it has been refreshing to come into the new season with a change of coach and tactics.

“There are specific rules that everyone has taken time to get use to but all the boys are working really hard and are keen to make it successful.

“We are now looking forward to testing ourselves out against A-League teams in the pre-season.”

If all goes to plan and Djite gets the opportunity to shine in front of goal he believes it could be the start of the next phase of his career.

“Playing overseas is something that I would definitely like to explore again.

“I know it is important for me to have an injury-free season where I get a lot of game time and get into some good form.

“You need to accomplish a series of goals on the way to achieving a dream and I am eager to do everything I can to give myself the best chance possible to do this.”

A strong season could also put Djite back in the frame for a return to the Socceroos squad having already made nine appearances for the national team.

“I think playing for your national side is something that every player should aspire to and although there are a lot of quality Australian players around it is definitely a goal of mine to get back playing for the Socceroos.

“I set my personal standards very high and never want to tread water but I know I have to not look too far ahead and just focus on playing well this season.”

Djite-s renewed focus is something that he has seen across the board at the Reds.

“It is no doubt going to be a very tough competition but with the players we have and the structures that have been put in place we are heading into the season confident that it will be a success.”

The Reds’ ability to match it with the top teams of the competition could well hinge on the new additions to the club for the 2013/14 season that include two of Gombau-s countrymen in midfielder Isaias Sanchez and striker Sergio Cirio.

“As a club we have been very lucky with how easily our imports have fit into our side and it seems to be the same for Isaias and Sergio.

“Firstly they are great blokes and they have been great on the field also.

“They arrive each morning with their Spanish music playing which is a bit of fun for all the guys.”

Despite losing Dario Vidosic and Iain Fyfe the club’s new signings have ensured that competition for places remains strong at the club.

“There has always been a lot of competition for spots here at the club which is very good for all the players.

“It gives you confidence when you have earned your spot in the side to go out on the pitch and perform.

“The more quality the club brings in and the greater competition for spots will help us to make the club successful.”

Djite and the Reds open their 2013/14 Hyundai A-League campaign at home against the Perth Glory on October 13. Kick off is at 4:30pm local time.
