Newcastle Jets have re-signed Young Matildas defender Claudia Cicco on a two-year deal set to run until the end of the 2025-26 Liberty A-League season.
Cicco made 18 appearances for the club in her first season in Newcastle having joined the Jets from Wellington Phoenix.
The 19-year-old was selected in the Young Matildas squad for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup in Uzbekistan due to her brilliant form through her debut season at the club, and has joined Cassidy Davis, Melina Ayres, Sarina Bolden, Lauren Allan and Emma Dundas as the sixth player currently under contract at the Jets ahead of the 2024-25 season.
“I’m really excited and grateful to re-sign with the Jets again,” Cicco siad.
“I love Newcastle and am looking forward to the growth of the Club. I can’t wait to get back into training, to improve each day under Ryan Campbell’s guidance. Newcastle has become my home away from home and I love playing for our passionate fans.”
Newcastle Jets Coach Ryan Campbell said furthering Cicco’s development as a player was one of his key goals ahead of the new season.
“Re-signing Claudia was a key goal of mine in order to continue what we have been building
from last season.
“Her pace and defensive ability are second to none and she is developing nicely as an attacking fullback. I am looking forward to working more with Claudia to help her continue to become an even more effective player.”
