Debuts do not come much better than this after Central Coast Mariners midfielder William Wilson marked his first senior international appearance for Kenya with a last-gasp equaliser in 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup qualifying.
Wilson struck in the 96th minute as Kenya rallied from two goals down to draw 3-3 away to CAF rivals Gambia in former Manchester United assistant coach Benni McCarthy’s first match in charge.

The 23-year-old – who born in Australia with Kenyan roots – came off the bench at half-time and rescued a point for the visitors in the sixth minute of stoppage time, having earned his first international call-up.
Kenya’s draw left the world number 108 fourth in Group F in World Cup qualifying in the African region, six points behind leaders Gabon and four adrift of Ivory Coast.
Wilson has made five appearances for two-time reigning Isuzu UTE A-League champions the Mariners this season, and seven across all competitions in 2024-25.
