Cassidy Davis has signed on for a 12th season at Newcastle Jets, as the veteran midfielder prepares to add to her club-record appearance tally in 2024-25.

A Liberty A-League icon, Davis made her Jets debut in 2013 and went on to make 132-straight appearances for the club without missing a game until a foot infection ended that run in the 2023-24 campaign.

Davis’ 132-game streak of consecutive games is the all-time record for female and male players in Australian football top-flight competition.

The central midfielder went on to add another 20 games to her career appearance tally in 2023-24 as she led the Jets to the cusp of the Liberty A-League Grand Final.

Newcastle’s Semi-Final loss to Premiers Melbourne City brought an end to a fairytale season for the club – a campaign in which Davis scored the Goal of the Year: a long-range volley against Western Sydney Wanderers in her 132nd and final consecutive game along that record-shattering run.

After a standout year for the Jets, Davis has put pen to paper on a one-season extension and expressed her excitement for what’s to come in Newcastle after the club secured new owners in June, with Maverick Sports Partners coming aboard to guide the club into what Davis describes as an exciting new era.

“I’m extremely grateful and proud to be representing my hometown Club for a 12th-consecutive season,” Davis said.

“The on-field success we had last year and the passionate support we received from the local
community, is a massive motivation for me to take this team to another level.

“I am eager to start the 2024-25 season and see where this new era takes us.”

Davis, 29, is Newcastle’s first re-signing of the off-season as Jets head coach Ryan Campbell begins to assemble his squad for season 2024-25. The club has confirmed the departure of both Gema Simon and Alex Huynh after the pair of experienced players announced their respective retirements at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Campbell says re-signing Davis was pivotal for the club due to her experience in the league, which will go a long way to helping the club’s cohort of young players continue to develop and flourish in the Liberty A-League.

“It’s great to have Cass back for another season as she epitomises everything that we are about as a club,” Campbell said.

“I look forward to her showing her leadership skills on and off the park to assist with such a young and positive team.”
